What Is an Upwork Certificate of Earnings and Why Do We Ask for It?

Updated yesterday

When signing up as a freelancer on Raenest, we ask for details about your source of income to help verify your employment and ensure compliance with financial regulations. If you’ve selected freelancer as your employment type and Upwork as your earnings platform, we’ll request your Upwork Certificate of Earnings as proof.

Why do we need this?

Unlike traditional employees who receive pay stubs or employment letters, freelancers often earn from multiple clients, making income verification more complex. The Upwork Certificate of Earnings helps solve this by:

  • Proving your earnings history on the Upwork platform

  • Confirming that you have a legitimate source of income

  • Helping us verify your employment status and activate your Raenest account

We only use this information to verify your source of income. It is not shared or used for any other purpose.

What does the Certificate show?

This official Upwork document includes:

  • Your full name and address

  • Your Upwork profile title and URL

  • A statement confirming your freelance status on Upwork

  • Your gross earnings over the past 1, 3, 6, and 12 months from the date you generate the report

How to get your Upwork Certificate of Earnings

To download your certificate:

  1. Log in to your Upwork account

  2. Go to Manage Finances

  3. Click Certificate of Earnings

  4. The report will be generated as a PDF

  5. You can download, save, email, or print the file

Once you’ve downloaded the certificate, upload it on Raenest to complete this step of your onboarding.
