At Geegpay, we want to make sure your money is safe and secure. That's why we ask for your Bank Verification Number (BVN) during your bank verification step to verify your identity as a Nigerian user.
What Information Do We Use From Your BVN?
We only use basic information from your BVN, like your name and date of birth, to verify your identity. We do not have access to your bank accounts or any private information beyond what's needed for verification.
When you link your bank account, we use your BVN to confirm the account name matches your Geegpay profile. Double-checking ensures you're the only one accessing your funds.
What About Non-Nigerian Users?
For users outside Nigeria, we use a different verification process depending on your location. This might involve providing your bank details which could either be your actual bank account or mobile money information.
We currently offer name verification for Kenyan bank accounts. Here, the user's name attached to the bank account provided is displayed alongside the name on their Geegpay profile. The two names displayed must match for the verification to be complete.
For other countries, we can only verify mobile money details by checking to see that the phone number is a valid one.
Once everything matches, your bank verification is complete. If these details are incorrect and the user tries to send money from the account, the transaction will not be completed.
The bank account you verify will be your default for sending money, but you can easily change it later.
